SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) – Once dubbed the “Deathmobile”, the 1968 VW Minibus van once owned by assisted suicide Dr. Jack Kevorkian has a new home.

Seth Gold of American Jewelry & Loan says he’s finally sold the iconic van his family bought for $20,000 in 2011 to reality TV paranormal investigator Zak Bagans.

Gold made a $15,000 profit on the vehicle that had been sitting in the back room of the well-known Southfield pawn shop collecting dust while visitors merrily posed with it for pictures.

The van had been on layaway for another buyer for some time, but that deal fell through.

“It was crazy because I was walking through the warehouse and I saw it in the back and I’m like, ‘It’s time to get rid of this thing,’” Gold told WWJ Newsradio 950’s Sandra McNeill. “And so I had my eCommerce department put it online.”

“(Bagans) inquired about the van yesterday, and we made a deal late last night, and he submitted payment this afternoon,” he said.

Gold said Bagans plans to use the notorious vehicle — in which some of Kevorkian’s assisted suicides were carried out — for an upcoming unspecified paranormal project.

Bagans also got a copy of Kevorkian’s driver’s license as part of the deal.

“Now that it’s actually leaving I’m actually kind of sad. But don’t worry — we’ll fill it up with something soon,” Gold said. “It’s one of those items that I was happy to say that I owned for a brief period of time. It was part of my collection, and now someone can say the same.”

Kevorkian, who served eight years in prison for his mercy killings, died in 2011.
